Northfield Mountain has an extensive trail system which magically turns into Northfield Mountain Cross Country Ski Area in winter--featuring fabulous cross-country skiing. There are over 25 miles of trails designed specifically for cross country skiing and groomed for both classical and free-style skiing. These trails offer some of the finest Nordic skiing in the region. Trails vary from beginner trails to the demanding 800-foot vertical climb of Tenth Mountain Trail. During the winter season, our trail system is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Hikers, dogs and other pets are excluded from our trails during the ski season. Always call ahead first to our 24-hour Snow Phone for the most current conditions: (800) 859-2960. (Conditions will also be up-dated on our Trails Report, though there may be a time-lag.)
Northfield Mountain can take on the largest blizzard or the lightest dusting of snow with a fleet that includes two full-size snow cats and two heavy-duty snowmobiles. The trails receive regular grooming--usually in the early morning, with tracks set for classical skiing, and areas groomed flat for free-style or skating on skis.
With more than 150 sets of skis including children's equipment, our ski shop can fit skiers of most any size. We offer mid-length waxless skis, equipped with easy-to-use Salomon Profil bindings. Adult sized skate ski rentals are also available. Daily trail fees range from $12 per day for adults, $9 per day for seniors (ages 55 - 69) and $5 per day for juniors (ages 8 - 14). Rental prices for skis, poles and boot packages range from $9 per day for children to $14 per day for adults. Combination packages that include rentals, trail fees and lessons are available. Snowshoes may be rented for $14 per day. For those with very young children, pulks may be rented for $5 per hour.
Northfield Mountain's certified ski instructors offer weekend lessons—and weekday lessons by appointment, which emphasize fun, necessary skills, and safety. Participants may choose between beginner's group lessons, special technique clinics, or private instruction. Reservations are required. Phone: (800) 859-2960. Special programs at moderate prices are offered for school groups.
More than six miles of trails are reserved exclusively for snowshoeing. They meander through scenic sections of the mountain, with great views from Rose Ledges.
Bring your lunch to the Mountain and enjoy it at any of a number of spots, including our heated lounge at the Center. You may wish to visit the Chocolate Pot for hot cocoa on weekends, where you can enjoy being warmed by an outdoor fire with nearby picnic tables. Several restaurants are also nearby. Call us at: (800) 859-2960.
